First specialized workshop "Development of agri-food sector through short food supply chains"

On 5th of December 2017 REDEA organized the first specialized workshop “Development of agri-food sector through short food supply chains” within the project AgriShort. Around 30 representatives of agricultural holdings and institutions relevant for the agri - food sector attended the workshop.
At the beginning of the workshop, attendees had the opportunity to hear the presentation of Mr. Mark Frederiks from Netherlands who started many various initiatives for establishment of different models of short food supply chains. During his presentation "Local2local - insight into short supply chains” Mr. Frederiks presented those initiatives which resulted in establishment of direct cooperation between agricultural producers and different institutions such as universities, health institutions and counties and municipalities.
During his presentation Mr. Frederiks enhanced: "Short supply chains stimulate the development of the local economy, create new jobs and encourage the production and consumption of local and seasonal foodstuffs. Your region has a significant natural potential and very rich tradition, but there is also a significant lack of cooperation. We can help you by sharing our experience so that you don’t repeat our mistakes during these processes.”
Within the first specialized workshop, participants had the opportunity to hear Mrs. Nevenka Belak from the Čakovec Regional Office of the Croatian Employment Service. During her presentation "Self-Employment" she presented opportunities and measures aimed at encouraging self-employment in agricultural holdings that are involved in primary and secondary agricultural production.
At the end of the workshop, Mr. Andrija Lesar from Bioinstitut Ltd. held a presentation titled "Requirements for Healthy Food Safety". During this presentation Mr. Lesar presented the current legislation and standards that all stakeholders involved in the value chain of foodstuffs production must fulfill to ensure food safety for the end consumer.
